Indoor soccer is here! AYSO has reserved two indoor soccer fields at Chicago Indoor Sports, from 9:30 AM to Noon on Saturday mornings, for a total of 5 hours of game time each Saturday. Due to limited field time and space we cannot accommodate everyone; the league will be open to boys and girls, U8, U10 and U12. Enroll fast as the program is sure to be popular!

YOU MUST BE A REGISTERED AYSO PLAYER IN THE FALL/SPRING 2009-2010 PROGRAM IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS WINTER PROGRAM.

AYSO
Indoor Rules

Indoor soccer is a fun, fast-paced game, and a great way to stay in shape and keep playing soccer during the cold winter months. Indoor soccer is NOT outdoor soccer inside. This is a completely different game. The fields are different, the game is faster, the rules are different. There are no sidelines—the boards keep the ball in play most of the time (if a ball touches the net above the boards or goes into the bench area, then it is out of play and the other team kicks the ball back in play). In indoor soccer, substitutions are made on the fly and often—it is not uncommon for substitutions to be made every 3-5 minutes as this is a tiring game.

Here’s how it will work:

  • There will be goalkeepers for all age groups.
  • U8 will play 8 v 8 (seven field players and a goalkeeper). U10 and U12 will play 7 v 7 (6 field players and a goal keeper).
  • Games will be consist of two halves, 20 minutes each, with a short halftime.
  • Teams will be co-ed.
  • Rosters will be a minimum of 12 kids per team, with a maximum of 16.
  • All games will be played on Saturdays, between 9:30 and Noon.
  • Chicago Indoor Soccer is located at 39th & Ashland. Click here for more information about the facility.

Registration, Fees and Coaching:

  • Registration will be $140, which will include 10 games and a team jersey.
  • Registration is online.
  • When you sign up, please indicate your child’s team number. We will make every effort to keep teammates together so long as we also are able to maintain fair and balanced teams.
  • We need coaches!! Remember, this is an all volunteer organization. If you are a coach now and your son or daughter wants to play indoor, please consider coaching again. This league will be games only, all on Saturday. New coaches are welcome too! Please indicate your coaching preference during your child's registration.
  • Rosters and schedules will be set by December 18, 2009, so please enroll soon. While we will continue to add players and build teams after December 18 if space allows, this is a popular program and the roster spots are likely to fill up fast.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your question is not answered here, feel free to contact the director of our Indoor Program, Matt Miller, at AYSOIndoor@gmail.com.

Do players have to be existing AYSO players (or wait list members) in order to participate?
Yes. This league is a complement to our existing fall/spring league. All players must be current AYSO participants.

Will the teams be co-ed?
Yes. The league is open to boys and girls, and due to the limited field time, the teams will be co-ed. Whether every team is co-ed or only some will depend on demand, but boys and girls are welcome.

How do I sign up?
Go to the AYSO Region 418 website and you will see a link for Indoor Sign-up. You fill in all of the necessary information there, including identifying your team number. We will make every effort to keep teammates together.

I’m a coach. Can I keep my team together?
We recognize the value in keeping a team intact for this winter session, as this helps with team bonding and also with player development. As such, we will make every effort to keep teammates together. But we also have to be mindful of the level of competition, and we do want to maintain balanced teams for competitive play. If you want to keep your team together, or if a few of your players want to play in the indoor league, be sure to tell the players to indicate their team number when they register.

A friend and I coach different teams and we want to combine our teams for the indoor season. Can we do this?
Again, probably, so long as we are otherwise able to maintain balanced play. If coaches want to combine their teams, they should register their players and then contact the Indoor Administrator, Matt Miller at aysoindoor@gmail.com. Please remember, however, that rosters are limited to a maximum size of 16.

When does it start and when are the games?
The league starts January 9, 2010, and all games will be on Saturdays from 9:30 AM to Noon. During that time, we have two fields reserved exclusively for our all-AYSO league. We will begin to fill rosters and schedules December 4, and we hope to be 100% enrolled by then, so enroll fast. The sooner you enroll, the sooner we will have the rosters and schedules done.

I want to coach but have no idea how indoor soccer works. Help!
We are here to help. If you are not already a registered coach, you will need to participate in coach training, which we will provide. Once you have completed that (and even if you have already done so but want to know more about the indoor game), if you still have questions, feel free to contact the league administrator, Matt Miller, at aysoindoor@gmail.com.

What do the kids wear?
The teams will be provided with jerseys for the indoor league, including a goalkeeper uniform. Shinguards are required. Shoes should be flat soles or turf shoes—the facility does not allow cleats. Shorts and socks will not be provided and the kids can wear their AYSO shorts and socks from their outdoor teams, or perhaps the indoor teams will select their own shorts and socks to wear—this will be up to each team.

Will there be practices?
Each coach will have to decide whether to practice and where. AYSO has set this league up as a games-only league. AYSO has not secured field space for team practices. You can contact the facility on your own to inquire about field time, or you can contact other athletic facilities or gyms if you are interested. Practices are not required.
