As a referee you will likely have questions about various game situations or just general questions about reffing. Below are some of the common questions that come up.
I had a situation at game I wasn't sure about. Is there someone I can talk with about it?
Send an email to the Region's Referee Administrator at [email protected] and we will find someone you can talk with. There are often other experienced referees at or near the "tent" that can help. We strongly encourage all referees to seek out help when needed. The best way to improve your abilities is to talk with other knowledgeable referees.
Is there anyone available to work with me during game?
Absolutely. The Regional can identify a referee who you can work with during a game in your role as either an assistant or center referee.
Is there anyone who can watch or observe my game and provide feedback?
Definitely. The Region has a number of referees who can observe your game and provide you with feedback afterwards.
Does AYSO offer a progression path for referees as they become more experienced? Are there other training opportunities after the Regional class?
AYSO has a well defined path for referees to "move up the ranks". All referees start at the Regional level. After that, other levels such as Intermediate, Advanced and National provide additional challenges and opportunities. Referees should be able to easily upgrade to the Intermediate level by their second or third year. AYSO training doesn't stop, as long as you're having fun!
What happens if I need a replacement uniform or other referee related equipment?
No problem. Just email the Regional Referee Administrator at [email protected].
Outside of the Region's Regional level training, are there any other web sites that provide content where I can learn on my own when I have time?
Definitely. We have a few sites and videos you can reference.
